Smartwatches are waterproof mainly through the following ways:


Sealing structure design
Shell sealing: add silicone ring between two shells to waterproof, screw fixing should be even, the average thickness of the shell should be about 1.8mm, and the thickness of the side should be more than 2.6mm. For example, SOODDS TK 1 smartwatch, its shell structure is reasonably designed, with sealing rubber ring and so on, it achieves 5ATM waterproof and IP68 grade waterproof, theoretically it can withstand 50 meters of deep water immersion. 
Button waterproofing: ultrasonic welding or screw fixing, two-color injection molding, adhesive backing, hard rubber squeezed into silicone holes or silicone squeezed into hard rubber, IML buttons, adding waterproof ring and so on. Like SOODDS TK 1 is equipped with waterproof adhesive ring at the keys, which effectively prevents water from seeping in through the seams of the keys.
Lens waterproofing: the width of one side of the adhesive backing is greater than 2mm, choose a waterproof type of adhesive backing, and the injection molding sprue position avoids the adhesive backing area; or use double ultrasonic line welding; you can also put the waterproof ring in the U-type groove, and add the lens, LCD, and bracket on top of it.
Charging interface waterproof: consider the integrity of the hole, open this hole in a shell, to avoid the two shell assembly error, resulting in water leakage.
Waterproof material application
Waterproof adhesive ring: use waterproof adhesive ring in the watch mirror, back cover, handle head, etc., to wrap the watch body tightly enough so that the body is completely closed, which is the basic principle of waterproofing for smart watches.
Waterproof Breathable Membrane: It is used in the structure of speaker hole, microphone hole, pressure balance hole and other structures for waterproof design, which can balance the pressure difference between inside and outside of the sealed shell, and at the same time, it can be dustproof and waterproof, air pressure balance, exhaust and pressure relief, and it has the characteristics of dustproof and waterproof, sound permeability and sound transmission, low sound loss, and good sound quality, etc. in acoustic components.

Nano waterproof coating: A layer of nano waterproof coating is coated on the surface of the touch screen and each internal component of the smartwatch, which can effectively prevent water from seeping in, and has excellent anti-corrosion, anti-salt spray, anti-bacterial and other properties.
Pressure test and material selection
Pressure test: The smartwatch is tested under a certain water pressure to verify whether it meets the expected waterproof level, and to check whether there is any water penetration into the various openings of the device (e.g. buttons, charging ports, etc.), so as to ensure its complete waterproof performance.
Material selection: Some materials such as stainless steel and ceramics have good water resistance, which can effectively improve the waterproof rating of the watch. In addition, appropriate sealant materials and waterproof gaskets can also be used to enhance the waterproof performance of the watch.
